Episode 4: Formerly Incarcerated Students
Yazmin moderates our final episode about invisible student populations, focusing on formerly incarcerated students. She begins the discussion by introducing current scholarship surrounding supporting formerly incarcerated students in higher education and student affairs leadership roles as well as how important language and openness to reform can be to their success. We debate some of the politics around and legal challenges for formerly incarcerated students and how this can impact their postsecondary and professional careers. We then finish up the episode concluding how much more there is to learn about the prison system within the United States, and how we can be better allies to formerly incarcerated students.
